CWA Local 1122 Monday March 8th, 10am                      

 

The CWA Local 1122 stewards meeting is scheduled for Thursday March 11 here at our local union office 3775 Genesee St.  Food will be served at 5pm the meeting will begin at 6pm.  The agenda includes open discussion over our workplace issues.  All stewards are urged to attend this meeting.

CWA and the American Red Cross are scheduled to go back to the bargaining table with Federal Mediation involvement on Tuesday March 16th.  Currently our members at the Red Cross are performing their labor without the protection of a collective bargaining agreement.  The American Red Cross has been indicted by the National Labor Relations Board for violating the National Labor Relations Act.  The Red Cross has unilaterally changed our member’s defined pension and 401k plan.  This is unlawful and this issue will be adjudicated at trial beginning March 22nd.  CWA expects similar indictments over the implementation of the Red Cross self insured revenue generating health care plan and claims of union animus treatment of our bargaining committee members.

Verizon has notified District One that a surplus condition exists in our force adjustment area.  The job classification and the number declared surplus is as follows.

  • Administrative Assistant                 4
  • Central Office Technician             20
  • Construction Coordinator              2
  • Field Technician                           13
  • Senior Administrative Assistant      1
  • Translation Administrator               2

This surplus condition has been determined by the Company to be a process change.  To alleviate the surplus condition the Company will invoke the force adjustment plan of the collective bargaining agreement.  If the surplus condition requires the use of the Enhanced Income Protection Plan under step three (3) of the Force Adjustment Plan article, EIPP offers will be tendered to those employees in the surplus titles and force adjustment areas involved on a date to be determined.  The off the payroll date is to be determined.  In addition, if the surplus is not satisfied by other steps of the force adjustment plan or other measures, the Company may implement involuntary transfers and layoffs pursuant to paragraphs 8(b) and 10 of the Force Adjustment Plan to those employees with a net credited service date of August 3, 2003 or later.
